Discussion > Journal Pro Desktop
Hi Ben,
We've been migrating to this new site over the past week and have been gradually getting our older software migrated over. Journal Pro Desktop will be available to download here as "donation-ware" within the next few days, so keep checking.
The SourceForge idea is something I'll consider. Hadn't thought about it before, but it's certainly a possibility. We've also got a newer version of Journal Pro for the desktop that I use on a daily basis, but has never been released to the public. The biggest reason for this is that the desktop version was originally conceived to sync data with the pocket pc version of JP, and this newest version does not have that capability since we moved it to a new data format. It's got a number of new capabilities including being able to include images in journal entries. We'll try to make that available in the near future as well.
Has there been any progress on the newer version of Journal Pro Desktop?
I used the mobile version to write occasional journal entries for a few years and kind of forgot about it until the other day when I noticed that the desktop client is available for free. I downloaded and installed it, but was disappointed to discover that there's no way to export JRN files as text in the desktop software. Since development of Journal Pro has been discontinued, I'm a bit reluctant to commit to writing all of my journal entries in a format that can't easily be converted to TXT, RTF, or some other format in the future.
Sure, I can copy the file over to my PDA for conversion. But I imagine that in another year or two I might not have a PDA or cellphone that can run Journal Pro.
i have been a long time user user of journal pro
and i have to say tanks for the great application
and good for you releasing it as a donate ware
and even better if you ever release it the source code
to the general community.
the only reason i stopped using journal pro is i went to linux.
and they dont have a journal out there as good as this.
thanks again
Hi, We're currently booked pretty full with iPhone projects, but seeing that there is still interest out there for Journal Pro I'll try very hard to get the code posted to SourceForge or another like site so that the community can keep it going. Thanks!
Dave
Dave,
I've been using JournalPro Desktop every day for about 4 years. I have really enjoyed it! Thanks for all your work on it over the years. I see from your website that I have an old version (2.5). I'm hoping the latest version 3.4 will read/convert my old .jrn file OK.

Dave,
Have you made any decision as to what site you will upload the code for Journal Pro Desktop? I have been using it daily since May 2001 and would love to help maintain it.
I discovered Journal Pro and JPDesktop when I was using a PocketPC. I've since moved to an iPod Touch as my primary pocket device and JP is one of the (very) few things I miss. I still use JPDesktop nearly every day. Do you have any plans on releasing a JP app for the iPhone/iPod Touch?
I bought desktop journal many years ago. I bought a new computer and now I am trying to find out how to move it to the new computer. Can anyone help please?
Like some of the posts above, I have been a "journalPro" user for a number of years - unfortunately I am in the position which "Brad" describes above: I no longer have a windows mobile device. Ideally I would love to have a version that would run on my BB (or an iPod Touch version- that would finally get me to buy one of these devices!). In the mean time, I still love the desktop version but I really could use the functionality of converting my *.jrn files to text. Has anyone found a way to do that? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Ditto on Journal Pro for iPod Touch. I have years of my life logged into this great program and would love to see it continue to better platforms. Else, could you post the database info so someone can figure out how to move the data. I'd hate to lose the data. I'd prefer to see it on the Touch though.
Hi Dave,
I was a past user of Journal Pro Desktop. I like it very much and was actually planning on purchasing one until I did a search and found it is no longer under active developing. I hope you guys would make it available for download. I would definitely love to donate to it.
Also, since it is no longer under active development, would you consider open source it Sourceforge.net where the open source community can keep it alive? It's a great piece of software and I would be willing to help maintain it at Sourceforge.net IF it were to be open source.
Thanks,
Ben
